September and October in the garden

Fall garden prepping has begun.. I added a bit of worm casting and garden watering grinds to just one bed. The other beds are growing cover crop.

Adding a bit of yumminess to the soil.

Then I added my pvc pipping to form the hoops and laid out my vegetables

So happy on how it is laid out. I did add a cover crop in the squares that did not have veggies planted in. Now comes the challenge of keeping out the grasshoppers and worms.

Basil was harvested and turned to pesto and by mid September we were munching on the first of the kale and a few salad greens that were just sprinkled into a pot.

We still had dahlias blooming until mid October and the monarch butterflies were loving them.

November is right around the corner. Which means colder temperatures to come. In the past it has been a roller coaster of warm to cold so fingers crossed white moths don’t land on our winter crops.

How is your garden growing this season ?

Hey, I’m Jenn, semi-retired military spouse, mom of four and a NYer turned OKie. After 30 years of moving and starting from scratch, my husband, soldier, Dennis and I decided Oklahoma was our last stop. We built our forever home, “The Roost” here in SW Oklahoma.

When I’m not out running, leather working, volunteering or with the chickens, yes, a new thing for me, I’m in the garden. I love to learn and experiment how to grow here in SW Oklahoma. My favorite part is to bring the garden to the table.

I’m so glad you guys are here! We can all learn, share and “Grow” together through this journey.
