July Book Recap~

If there was one word to describe July, it would be HOT. But I received my hardcopy of The Calamity Club and of course gave it 5 stars. I don’t want to ruin it for you but I highly recommend you get on the wait list or just grab your hard copy instead so you don’t get it returned early without finishing it ( see my June listens )

Here at The Roost, the summer heat has been relentless. My days start early with ruck walks on the trails, headphones on, and Remington and Red happily leading the way. Once the sun finally began to settle in the evenings, I'd head back outside to tackle a few garden chores before calling it a day.

The heat may have slowed me down, but it didn't slow down my reading (or should I say listening). With my iPad and headphones in tow, This month I finished 16 audiobooks and 2 physical books,

Noelle W. Ihli’s Forget You Saw Her and Ask For Andrea . Both books were thrillers and I swear I didn’t even realize they were written by the same person. Murder, secrets buried and spirit haunting. Both are you need to listen or read.

The Unwinding of the Miracle by Julie Yip-Williams was so good! Born blind in Vietnam but the struggle didn’t stop there. From escaping death due to cultural beliefs, fleeing on a boat with so many refugees to a better life starting in Hong Kong to finally the USA. Becoming a lawyer, mom and wife to a terminal diagnoses. Such an incredible story. Make sure you listen all the way until the end.

These 3 are my 5 star ratings for July. I have never read James Patterson but read a few by David Ellis. Both are fantastic listens of mystery thrillers. This is a Love Story , Jessica Soffer so good. With glimpses of New Yorks Central Park a romance, which isn’t my genre usually, but recounting this couples life of love, motherhood, hurt and death. This to was a great read, yes I said read. My second book I read from front to back in one month.

This group were 4 stars with a one book being 3 stars. Can you guess with one it was?

I’d love to know, what was your favorite read in July?

Happy Reading ~

Hey, I’m Jenn, semi-retired military spouse, mom of four and a NYer turned OKie. After 30 years of moving and starting from scratch, my husband, soldier, Dennis and I decided Oklahoma was our last stop. We built our forever home, “The Roost” here in SW Oklahoma.

When I’m not out running, leather working, volunteering or with the chickens, yes, a new thing for me, I’m in the garden. I love to learn and experiment how to grow here in SW Oklahoma. My favorite part is to bring the garden to the table.

I’m so glad you guys are here! We can all learn, share and “Grow” together through this journey.
