February Reads/Listens

Let me start with my memoir of the month, Hello, Molly! By Molly Shannon. Yes funny, honest, a tragic beginning which leads you to a quirky kind of relationship with her Dad. She was definitely all over the place but that is kind of her personality I think. I gave it a 3-4 star rating.

My favorite read of the month was The Editor, by Steven Rowley . I won’t say too much because I can’t stand when someone gives away the good parts. Let’s just say: a writer trying to make it, family drama, secrets, and an unforgettable editor who changes everything. It’s layered, thoughtful, and beautifully done. Five stars without hesitation.

Also earning 5 stars this month were Estrogen Matters, Buckeye and The Last Secret of Lily Adams. Very different reads but all really good.

A new author to me is Barbara O’Neal. The Lost Recipe for Happiness is my first book that I listened to and as someone who loves being in the kitchen and experimenting with new dishes, this one felt right up my alley. The story is woven with food, healing, and fresh starts — and there were so many recipes mentioned that I honestly wished I had the physical copy so I could jot them down. Lesson learned, some books are worth having in your hands. She has several more titles, and I’ll definitely be picking up another soon.

So the only book that I’m reading, that I started in January is Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family, by Robert Kolker. Such a crazy read, but I will save the details for you once I finish it.

Hey, I’m Jenn, semi-retired military spouse, mom of four and a NYer turned OKie. After 30 years of moving and starting from scratch, my husband, soldier, Dennis and I decided Oklahoma was our last stop. We built our forever home, “The Roost” here in SW Oklahoma.

When I’m not out running, leather working, volunteering or with the chickens, yes, a new thing for me, I’m in the garden. I love to learn and experiment how to grow here in SW Oklahoma. My favorite part is to bring the garden to the table.

I’m so glad you guys are here! We can all learn, share and “Grow” together through this journey.
